Shanique was the most beatiful girl in the world and my best friend.
She fought a long and brave fight with cancer but it finally claimed her on the 8th Aug 2008 aged 17
yrs.
She never complained about anything, the chemo, sickness, hair loss and even when she was told her
condition was terminal!
She continued at school and passed ALL her GCSE's and enrolled in 6th Form where took History,
English Lit, Law and psycology. Her aim was to go to Bristol Uni and become a Criminal
Psychologist.
Her main concern was that i wasn't upset and so she planned her own funeral.
We all wore red and white and had some of her favourite songs playing at the funeral. It all went
off as she would have wanted!
She was a beautiful soul who was loved by everyone who knew her.
Star To the End.
When Shanique passed away her story was reported in the local newspaper.
I was contacted by a reporter asking if they could feature a story about Shanique as her story was
so uplifting. That may sound strange but let me explain.
When Shanique found out earlier this year that her condition was terminal she chose NOT to tell her
friends as she didn't want to upset them as they got ready to take their exams!
She would smile, joke, and generally just be herself as she was determined to live what life she had
left to the full.
Throughout everything she used to say to me please don't be sad mum and the only time she got upset
was if she saw me struggling with it!
So she was a star and deserved to be on the front page of the paper so everyone could see what an
inspiration she was.

A shadow of joy flickered; it is me.

We lived in our special way,
a way that now has its focus changed.

long for the many words of prayer
and good fortune for my soul.

As you struggle to adjust without me,
I watch silently.
Sometimes I summon up all the strength
of my new world
to make you notice me.
Impressed by your grief,
I try to impress my love
deeper into your consciousness.
As you should,
I call out to the Heavens for help.
You should know that the fountain of youth
does exist.
My soul is now healthy.
Your love sends me new found energy.
I am adjusting to this new world.
I am with you and I am in the Light.
Please don't feel bad that you can't see me.
I am with you wherever you go.
I protect you,
just as you protected me so many times.
Talk to me and somehow I will
find a way to answer you.
Mother, father, son or daughter
it makes no difference.
Brother, sister, lover,
husband or wife, it makes no difference.
Whatever our connection-friend or even foe-
I see you with my new eyes.
I am learning to help wherever you are,
where ever I am needed.
This can be done because I am in the Light.
When you feel despair, reach out to me.

Our love for you truly does
transcend from Heaven to Earth.
Finish your life with the enthusiasm and zest
that you had when we were together
in the physical sense.
You owe this to me, but more importantly,
you owe it to yourself.
Life continues for both of us.

OMG I have looked through your Daughter's lovely pictures and went to write a tribute.........and then just realised she has only recently passed on. I'm so sorry for your loss, it must be excrutiating torture for you to lose your Daughter soooooo young and to that horrible thing that destroys people. I had a friend who was only 9 when she died from it but i was so young, can't really remember much about her suffering. But looking through Shanique's memorial, and seeing her really pretty face, to imagine the pain and suffering she must have faced, and her bravery, it really chokes me, it really does.
I'm so sorry for your loss, she was obviously just far too good for this cruel world and was needed to be your angel, and i'm sure she'll be guiding you. She will be really proud of your memorial to her.
